Avon Complementary Medicine

Avon Complementary Medicine is the central office for the practices of Dr David Dowson, a specialist in Complementary Medicine.

Dr Dowson worked as a general practitioner near Bournemouth for over twelve years, during which time he incorporated complementary methods within his practice, mainly acupuncture. From 1984 to 1993 he was a partner at the Centre for the Study of Complementary Medicine, Southampton. He has written extensively on complementary medicine, including being the co-author of two books and contributor to others, including the Readers Digest Family Guide to Alternative Medicine.' In addition he has done research, subsequently published, mainly in environmental medicine. He has a particular interest in the treatment of M.E., and conducted research which demonstrated the most effective treatment for this condition so far discovered.

As well as his clinical commitment, Dr Dowson teaches acupuncture, homoeopathy, and allergy to fellow doctors, physiotherapists and to veterinary practitioners. He lectures extensively, particularly on M.E., and has advised the House of Commons, M.P., and the Select Committee of the House of Lords on Complementary Medicine.

Recently, through a generous legacy from a patient, he has registered a charity to fund research in complementary medicine (The Ann Hill Research Trust

Dr Dowson considers that his treatment is primary through "Biological Therapy". This is treatment designed to encourage the body's natural healing and defensive mechanisms.
